In the fields of Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Surgery, HBOT is primarily used to treat or prevent osteoradionecrosis. HBOT stimulates angiogenesis in the bone while simultaneously stimulating osteoclasts and osteoblasts to repair the resulting damage to the osseous tissue following radiation therapy for cancer treatments. HBOT stimulates neutrophils and works synergistically with antibiotics to fight infection. HBOT will repopulate injured tissue with stem cells, aiding in the repair of the injured tissue. The number of treatments required is 30 to 40 sessions but occasionally additional sessions are required.
