In addition to the new series of Spotlight Events for the general public, Nirvana also hosted a fascinating Spotlight Event strictly for medical and health professionals. On Wednesday evening, July 27th, Don Becker, MD, presented the "Scientific Basis for the Management of Concussive Brain Injury in Amateur and Professional Athletes."

For more than 40 years, Dr. Becker has been a highly recognized and well-published Neurological Surgeon; an expert in surgery of skull base tumors, other benign brain tumors and pituitary tumors, and leads a nationally recognized program in brain injury. He is a Professor of Neurosurgery at UCLA School of Medicine; Director, UCLA Brain Tumor Program; and Director of UCLA Neurosurgery Skull Base Lab and the former W. Eugene Stern Chair of UCLA Medical Center Neurological Training Program. Dr. Becker is also Chairman of Nirvana Hyperbaric Institutes Medical Advisory Board.
We had a wonderful turnout of 20 medical doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists show up for the event. We started the evening at 5:30 pm in the hyperbaric chamber room with wine and hors d'oeuvres from the Wandering Dog Wine Bar, thank you Susan Williams, and an opportunity to meet and great many new faces. For many of the attendees, it was their first time at Nirvana and all of them were blown away at the beauty of our center.
At 6:15 pm, we all moved over to the EWOT room for the presentation. Dr. Becker spent 45 minutes drilling into the specifics of the "Cantu Return to Play" guidelines for athletes with great questions from Bill Gallivan, MD, Gary Foresman, MD, and Robert Mathis, MD. After running over time, we finally had to call an end to the questions and wrap it up.
In addition to the medical professionals mentioned above, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mark Levy, MD, Mike Krause, DC, Jim Hazard, DC, Rise Oschner, MD, Gustavo Dascanio, MD, William Heringer, MD, Richard Bell, MD, Shelly Kotter, PT, Cheryl Hermann, from Jodi House - Brain Injury Support Center, and Laura Kath for making this event a smashing success for Nirvana.
